Wout D'Heer Shines in Italy
Wout D'Heer's increased playtime in Italy with Taranto is paying off for his team. At 27-27 in the fourth set, the Belgian international scored a critical point that led to a match win. Wout also stood out with his 9 points, scored at an 83% efficiency. Milan (with Ferre Reggers 18 points – 48%) surprisingly lost 1-3 at home against Verona.
In Poland, two losses for Belgian players. Gorzow suffered a heavy 3-0 loss against Zawiercie. Mathijs Desmet scored a single point in the only set he briefly played. Kedzierzyn (with Igor Grobelny 6 points – 19%) also lost 3-0 against Lublin.
Sam Deroo and Zenit Kazan extended their winning streak in Russia with a 3-0 win over Kemerovo. In Germany, Simon Plaskie had an impressive performance (10 points – 39%) as Recycling Berlin won the city derby 3-0. Without T2 Pieter Verhees, Düren, coached by Christophe Achten and with Robbe Van de Velde (starting in the third set with 4 points – 44%), couldn’t measure up to Friedrichshafen, who won 3-0.
In Romania, Marin Dukic put in a strong performance (11 points – 40%), though his team Craiova lost 3-0 to Galati. In Croatia, Castela (with Simon Vlahovic) won 3-0 against Rijeka. Tomas Rousseaux contributed to a fourth consecutive win for his team Guaguas Las Palmas in Spain, with a 3-0 win against Tarragona.
A notable performance also came from middle blocker Tim Bayet in Switzerland, who helped Lausanne beat St-Gallen 3-1, scoring 10 points at 50%.
Comeback of Kaja Grobelna in Japan
Among the women, in Japan, we saw the return of Kaja Grobelna after a long injury period. With her team Queenseis, she lost the first match against Kawasaki (13 points – 31%) 3-0, but they took revenge the next day with a 3-1 victory over the same opponent, in which Kaja scored 12 points at 35%.
Lise Van Hecke won twice with her team Osaka against Hisamitsu (3-0 and 3-1), scoring 16 points (50%) and 17 points (35%).
A surprising victory in Italy, where Busto Arsizio, partly thanks to the match point by Silke Van Avermaet (13 points at 63%, and 2 aces), triumphed over Scandicci, where Britt Herbots (5 points – 22%) seemed to have an off day. Milan narrowly defeated Cuneo 2-3 after Laura Heyrman was brought in for the last two sets (4 points – 60%).
Without Sobolska, GB Lodz in Poland easily won 0-3 against Radom.
In Germany, Nathalie Lemmens was once again among the top performers for Dresdner, contributing 11 points (56%) in their 2-3 win over Schwerin. Against Suhl, with Lara Nagels (1 point), Stuttgart (with Martin Pauline 12 points – 56% and Charlotte Krenicky, who only played one set) won 1-3. Anna Koulberg (5 points – 67%) also helped Potsdam secure a win over Münster (0-3).
Without Britt Rampelberg, Venelles lost in France 3-2 (15-13 in the fifth set) against Chamalières.
A comfortable second consecutive win in Greece for Ilka Van de Vyver (4 points – 75%) with Paok Saloniki, who defeated AEK Athens 3-0.
