Volley wants more women in key positions

01/02/2023

Volley Vlaanderen's "Women Empowerment Program" (W.E.P.) should lead more women to key positions in volleyball.

After thorough research, it appears that the ratio between active players and club staff is completely skewed: there is a huge shortage of trainers, female referees and female board members.

34% club directors are women.
Only 18% of club presidents are women.
The various Boards of Directors of our BLVVs have 13% women.

Among trainers, women are better represented: 42% of all trainers are women.

Unfortunately, this favourable trend is not followed up in the highest divisions of Volleyball sport: only 10% of all A licence holders and 8% of B licence holders are women.

Among referees, the balance is even more male if possible : barely 5% of officials are women.

The ambition is clear:
- 45% female core board members
- 50% female trainers
- 10% female referees

The "Women Empowerment Programme" will be presented at the Lotto Cup Finals.
Appointment on 26 February in Antwerp's Sportpaleis.
