BEL-SUI 3-0 set scores 25-21, 25-16, 25-15


In the battle for the bronze medal, Belgium started with Ponseele, Kobe Verwimp, Van Looveren, Spiessens, Wolters, De Vleeschhauwer and Matis Verwimp as libero.


The start of the match was evenly matched (11-11). With an ace, Van Looveren made the first gap (14-11). Switzerland came under pressure and piled up the errors (17-14). Belgium remained in control of the match (20-15). Switzerland still came back to 23-21 but Spiessens put the 25-21 on the board. However, the first set was laced with too many storage mistakes.
Both teams did not give each other an inch (6-6) but Wolters broke open the second set with an ace ( 9-6). Belgium was able to maintain the lead (15-12) and even deepen it (19-14). Belgium kept control and also took set two 25-16.


In the third set, Switzerland was quickly upset (8-4) by a strong serving and blocking Belgium, which did not relinquish control of the match (10-5 and 15-9). The Belgians were in the flow and treated the numerous arriving supporters to frivolous volleyball (18-10). An enthusiastic team pushed on and closed 25-15.

A well-deserved victory that eventually resulted in a deserved 3rd place after a bumpy track in the sickbay. Nicely along on the podium alongside the standouts France and Italy.
