Olympic Qualifying Tournament: Yellow Tigers gear up for new challenge.

11/09/2023

After the intense European championship at home, the Yellow Tigers are preparing for the Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Japan.

Unfortunately, the Yellow Tigers will not be able to count on star attacker Britt Herbots. Although the rehabilitation of her injury is going in the right direction, after thorough examination and in consultation with the medical staff, it has been decided to give this rehabilitation full priority. Such that the impending season start at her club and the summer 2024 with the Yellow Tigers will not be compromised.

However, national coach Kris Vansnick remains combative: "Britt's absence is of course a serious loss, but the ladies proved in the exciting last game of the European Championships against Turkey, the later European champion, that there is quality and resilience in our team. We will have to make up for her absence creatively & collectively. It also provides an opportunity for other players to step up and show themselves in this challenging Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Japan."

The Olympic Qualifying Tournament will take place from 16 to 24 September in Japan.
Belgium (FIVB-13) will compete successively against Bulgaria (FIVB-16), Puerto Rico (FIVB-22), Argentina (FIVB-19), Peru (FIVB-29), Japan (FIVB-8), Brazil (FIVB-4) and Turkey (FIVB-1).

There are 3 qualifying groups, the top 2 qualify for the Games each time. Host country France is automatically qualified, thus 5 Olympic tickets remain after these tournaments. These will be distributed according to the world ranking in June 2024. This is therefore partly the aim of our Yellow Tigers to gather enough ranking points through the OKT.
