International beach volleyball referees receive training at Future tournament in Leuven.
As many as 20 candidates stand a chance of being appointed as international beach volleyball referees, including seven female participants. Among them, there are even two Belgians: Esther De Rycke and Jarne Van Schuerbeeck. This training, the CEVIBRCC, is organised in Belgium. The theoretical part was completed in Vilvoorde from Monday to Wednesday. The practical part will take place in the coming days during the Future tournament in Leuven.
A FIVB Beach Pro Tour Future tournament is being organised on the Ladeuzeplein for the third year in a row. Teams from all corners of the world descend on Leuven to compete for gold at this prestigious event. The referees will complete their internship during this tournament and will be closely monitored by various instructors. At the end, on Sunday, they will know if they have passed. The tournament will be followed by an official graduation ceremony and a closing ceremony.
Dries Koekelkoren, tournament director, is very pleased with this opportunity. "Our federation has done excellent lobbying work to bring this high-quality training to Belgium. To combine that with a Future tournament, in an environment that can handle perhaps a level higher, that is rarely seen. Everything here has been organised down to the last detail, for which we are very grateful to Lizards Lubbeek-Leuven. They help ensure this unique moment."
